CIMST Department at ILSAMP Conference:

Faculty and Students Lead Discussions on Innovation and Future Pathways

The CIMST Department at 海角社区 actively participated in the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ILSAMP) conference, held from February 28 to March 1, 2025, at the Doubletree by Hilton, Lisle, IL. The conference served as a platform for faculty and students to engage in discussions on innovative topics within computer science, biology, physics, engineering and technology, and other STEM areas.

Prof. Dr. Rohan Attele presented a thought-provoking lecture titled "Bridging Abstraction and Computing: A Modern Mathematics Curriculum for the Data-Driven Economy," exploring how contemporary mathematical education can align with the needs of a rapidly evolving, data-centric world. His presentation highlighted the importance of adapting curricula to meet the demands of the data-driven economy, which is central to the future of STEM disciplines.

Additionally, Dr. Mohammad Abdus Salam, Chairman of the CIMST Department, introduced the newly proposed Ph.D. program with a presentation titled "Building the Future: A Seamless Pathway from Undergraduate to Ph.D." Dr. Salam's talk focused on how the proposed Ph.D. program aims to provide students with a direct and seamless academic journey from undergraduate studies to advanced research in computer science.

Six graduate students from the Computer Science Program presented their research posters at the conference. The students and their presentation titles are as follows:

The conference also featured contributions from other CIMST faculty, including Prof. Dr. Jan-Jo Chen and Dr. Elaina Khasawneh, who attended the event and engaged in valuable discussions with their peers. The presentations and discussions were part of the department鈥檚 ongoing efforts to foster collaboration, innovation, and the development of future leaders in technology and computer science.
